The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) appreciates the collaboration and enthusiasm of hundreds of singers, lyricists, composers and artistes in general who supported our song contest “Lend Your Voice For Those Who Have No Voice.”
We received more than 150 entries, which gave rise to the collection of more than 100,000 votes coming from some 100 countries for the various interpretations.
All this amounted to an unprecedented number of visits to the Web site www.impunidad.com – some 250,000 in all.
In effect the call for entries in the contest was a new form of freedom of expression, for the right to know, and a major boost in our campaign aimed at reducing the violence unleashed against news media and individual journalists, in addition to promoting the urgent need for the authorities to move ahead with the relevant investigations and subsequent punishment of those responsible for the crimes against journalists in the Americas that have remained in impunity.
And many thanks, especially, to the members of the international adjudication panel who disinterestedly are collaborating so that on April 1 it will be made known which among the 22 finalists are the winning musical themes and the most inspired lyrics that also will be awarded.
