The last times we saw him and Olivia Mora was in the late 1960s at the offices of the Chilean War Academy. The three of us were part of a group of 15 journalists who were taking the first advanced course for military correspondents that had recently been started by the army. The course director was Maj. Manuel Contreras, the same one who would later establish and head up the notorious DINA, precursor to the CNI, which ordered the murder of José Carrasco.

My work had led me to reside in Ecuador and later in Mexico. It was in Mexico City where I saw Olivia again. She would soon go back to Chile to live near her two sons after the loss of their father. Tragedy would strike her again. But Olivia and her son Iván never stopped demanding justice and took up the banner of Pepe’s parents, Humberto and Chela, who died before elusive justice was served.
