Around 5:00 p.m. he was intercepted by two men, who stabbed him 22 times.
In October 2006 Octaviano Pérez Féliz, a police officer, and Anthony Candelario were sentenced to 30 years in prison.

It was initially held that the motive was robbery of a cell phone and a pistol belonging to the journalist, but people close to him have said that he was believed to have been killed for his exposure of corruption.
