Around 6:20 a.m., after having breakfast at a local bakery, he was returning to his car to go to the radio station when a man shot at him several times. Another man approached and also shot at him.

Four police officers allegedly implicated in the murder were sent to prison in June 1998 for something to do with another case.
Suspects not charged: (+)
Francisco Augusto Tavela and Paulo Rubens Reichel were investigated and both were murdered.
The investigation was wound up on January 31, 2006 at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office after investigations by the Integrated Unit to Combat Criminal Organizations (UNICOC) ended.
On July 27, 2000 the case was submitted by the IAPA to the IACHR.
