El 18 de diciembre de 2008 fueron sentenciados Francisco Lindenor de Jesus Moura Júnior, a 26 años de cárcel, y Francisco José de Oliveira Maia, a 8 años de prisión, como autores materiales.

Ricardo Rodrigo Chagas was arrested and later released due to doubts about his having participated in the crime.
Cássio Santana de Souza, alleged perpetrator, was arrested in August 2007.

Eight persons were implicated in the crime. In October 2007 they appealed the charges that are under judicial consideration. Among the accused are Arivan Lucena, former mayor, accused of ordering the killing; her husband José María Lucena, a judge, who could face charges for complicity. This will be decided by the High Court.
José Roberto Santos Nogueira (Chico Orelha), also allegedly implicated, died on May 11, 2004 in a clash with police.
